Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
About the Exam
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) serves as a pivotal examination for individuals aspiring to pursue graduate management programs, notably the Master of Business Administration (MBA). Administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the GMAT offers business schools a standardized measure of applicants’ readiness for rigorous academic endeavors at the graduate level.
Structured as a computer-adaptive test spanning 3 hours and 7 minutes, the GMAT evaluates test takers across four distinct skill domains: analytical, quantitative, verbal, and writing. Test takers receive a GMAT score ranging from 200 to 800, with 10-point increments, which serves as a critical evaluation metric for business school admissions committees during the MBA application process.
The Curriculum
The GMAT syllabus thus provides a comprehensive framework for evaluating candidates' analytical, quantitative, verbal, and writing skills, serving as a crucial determinant for admission to prestigious business schools worldwide.
This section evaluates candidates' capacity to critically evaluate data and articulate their ideas effectively in written English.
Test takers demonstrate their ability to process and interpret data presented in various formats, including tables, graphs, and charts.
Candidates' understanding and execution of fundamental mathematical concepts are assessed, covering arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data sufficiency questions.
This section measures candidates' proficiency in absorbing and interpreting written content, comprising reading comprehension, sentence correction, and critical reasoning tasks.
- The GMAC sets minimal eligibility requirements for the GMAT exam, primarily focusing on age. Individuals over 18 years old are eligible to take the GMAT, while those under 18 must provide a signed GMAT Parental Consent/Authorization form. Beyond age, there are no specific criteria related to educational background or prior qualifications, making the GMAT accessible to a wide range of candidates worldwide.
- For testing at a designated test facility, the official registration fee for the GMAT is US$275, equivalent to approximately Rs. 22,911 for Indian students. Alternatively, candidates have the option to take the GMAT at home for a fee of $250 USD, approximately Rs. 20,800. This pricing structure provides flexibility for candidates to choose the testing format that best suits their preferences and circumstances, ensuring accessibility to the exam regardless of location or testing environment.
- The GMAT is available year-round at Prometric test centers located worldwide, offering candidates the flexibility to schedule their exams according to their convenience. Appointments for the GMAT can be made online or by phone, allowing candidates to select a test date and location that aligns with their availability and preferences. The scheduling process takes into account both candidate availability and the availability of testing slots at their chosen test facility, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for all GMAT test takers.
